Inner Smile Anxiety Clinic in Nottingham and Online

Anxiety is our body's psychological response to a perceived threat. Therefore it's natural and important for us to experience anxiety to warn us of danger. Sometimes that threat is obvious and sometimes the anxious feelings seem to come from nowhere. However, due to life experience and past trauma, our anxiety response can become problematic and sometimes debilitating.

Therapy for Anxiety can help you to identify the cause of your feelings but also to help you to find some strategies that may help to reduce the intensity of the anxiety and help you to feel more in control. It may be that there are areas of your life that need to change to reduce the anxiety, or if it is related to past events then exploring this and working with the fight/flight/freeze response may work for you.

I can offer therapy to find solutions to your feelings of anxiety. Using relaxation, mindfulness and guided imagery techniques can allow you to experience true relaxation. We might work with deeper, unconscious belief systems and cognitive distortions, or negative thought patterns that may be creating feelings of fear and anxiety.

Issues may take no more than 4 - 8 sessions, and it may be that once the anxiety is under control you may feel you would like to focus on where you go from here and how to create a better, more fulfilling future for yourself without anxiety. For the therapy to be effective it's important that you are ready to make the changes necessary and to be open minded and collaborative. Therapy is two people working together to create change.

I have experience of many evidence-based therapy techniques focused on helping you to find solutions to reduce anxiety and create positive outcomes that enable you to live a richer, more fulfilled life, then I can support you with this. The most important of all is the working alliance, or the relationship between you and me. This doesn't happen instantly and can take a few sessions to build the rapport that encourages a successful outcome.

I can offer you a space of warmth and understanding. You should not feel concerned about being judged, as in this space there is only acceptance and appreciation of who you are and where you have been.

Working as a Humanistic Psychotherapist means that the focus is on growth and personal development. I believe every human being has an innate desire to reach their full potential, despite life's setbacks, to be the best that they can be. The only thing holding us back is our mindset. So, with that in mind, the focus of the therapy is on growth, exploration and understanding. Further training in therapeutic coaching has given me further skills to support and encourage growth and change.

As an Integrative therapist, I offer a counselling/coaching model of therapy. I draw on any intervention or theory that may be of benefit to you. Though research has shown that it is the therapeutic relationship itself that is the real agent of change. I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework to ensure I work in a professional manner to do no harm and to promote your wellbeing in a trusting and non-judgmental relationship.

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) – a broad diagnosis suggesting you are experiencing uncontrollable and often irrational

worries about many aspects of your everyday life, which is affecting your everyday life.

Social anxiety disorder – It is also known as social phobia. This is very common form of anxiety and is usually related to fear of being disliked and/or judged.

Panic disorder – this ia an extreme anxiety response, usually without warning or trigger. This then creates a further fear of experiencing another panic attack in future, which can then be a trigger to further panic attacks.

Phobias – a phobia is an extreme fear of a particular situation or object.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) –  Usually begins to manifest after a traumatic event such as being in an accident or a victim of crime. The experience is of flashbacks, nightmares, being on hyperalert and experiencing the traumatic event over and over as though it was yesterday.

Our bodies begin to shake, our blood pressure increases, we may begin to sweat, become restless, angry or emotional. There are many ways in which our body responds to potential threat and anxiety and it can be very unnerving.

What next?

Once you are feeling in a better place within yourself, we can then focus on the person you want to be with this new found feeling of peace and calm, and look at working with your goals for the future, once you are free from the debilitating feelings of anxiety that have been holding you prisoner.

While everybody responds differently to therapy, and change may happen more quickly for some than for others. Therapy can be a very empowering experience and allow you to feel that you have more control over your life than you may realise, while giving you the confidence to make the changes you want to make.

Here is a safe space where you can just be you and feel comfortable sharing whatever part of you that you feel requires change, and the fact that you are reading this now would say you are ready for change. I would be honoured to support you on your journey to wellness and fulfillment. Please reach out to make contact using the buttons below.
